Queues
I’ve had the most enJOYable experiences, in recent times, standing in queues. A simple smile and a bit of ’small talk’ goes a long way to making the standing-in-line process more pleasurable.
Recently, I was standing in a queue at the checkout of Big W when I noticed a little girl sitting in a trolley pushed by her mum. The girl was looking at me while she sang “Old Macdonald” … I commented that it was a great song and we started chatting. The end result was that I learnt all about her brothers, met her mum, and had a great chat with the folks lined up around us.
Then, at the checkout, the lady next to me popped her things on the counter and I saw that she was buying some cardstock that I had considered purchasing, too. We had a chat about why she was buying the cardstock, and why I wasn’t; about her daughter who made cards; and about me just signing up as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. We laughed and we chatted and the world was a better place for our meeting.
This morning, DH and I had a similar experience in the queue to vote. We shared stories and thoughts about who to vote for and how the queue would have been shorter if we’d gone to a different primary school. As the couple finished voting and walked past me on their way out, the lady wished me a lovely day.
Ahh, you do meet the nicest people in queues.
