The Power of Pleasure

Posted by Michelle under Musings

Just wanted to update you on the book, “The Power of Pleasure” by Douglas Weiss Ph.D. – I am still reading it but at the ‘homework’ part where I have to list the different types of pleasure I’ve experienced at different ages.

I kind of want to start another book, just for the reading pleasure, but I don’t usually ‘multi-task’ reading.

The list is broken into the 3 Pleasures: Body, Soul & Spirit, and age groups: 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29 etc up until your current age.  So far, I’ve managed quite an extensive list of ‘Body Pleasures’ for the first age groups and come to a blank from 15 onwards.  Hmm.  It’s become a bit too hard so I’ve kind of let it sit for a while.

But, in spite of the challenging task Dr Doug has given me, I have learned So Much about myself in just the first half of the book.  I reckon I’ll see it through and, hopefully, learn even more … Balanced Pleasure Here I Come!

A Thought for the Week …

Take the Time … to Stop and BE … regularly, each day, several times in the day.  Walk out in the Garden, a Park, along the banks of the River and Notice the Simplicity and Beauty of the Universe we live in.

Act as If … you already are Successful … Abundant … Beautiful … Courageous … Creative … Empowered … and BE All That You Can Be.

Balanced Pleasure

Last week was my busiest week in a Very Long Time.

By Friday afternoon, I realised I’d used every ‘hat’ that I wear:

  • My Parent Hat was indulged in the obvious ways but also as Parent Rep for Primary School;
  • My Michelle Hat was indulged at Line Dancing, and my counselling session;
  • My Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Hat was indulged with heaps of stamping projects (as you will have seen on my posts), and our Stamp Camp day;
  • My Friend Hat was indulged in morning tea and lunch and afternoon tea with lovely friends;
  • My Writing Hat was indulged with a Lunch ‘meeting’ with Angel Jo to discuss writing, and lots of blogging; and
  • My House-keeping Hat finally got used when I did some Very Thorough Vacuuming.

And, as a result of Paying Attention to what makes me happy I have had a much happier weekend.

(And, I’m really tired! :-D )

All of these things would probably have happened anyway, but for this particular week, I’ve noticed which things I do that give me the greatest Pleasure. “The Power of  Pleasure” has given me an opportunity to see how unbalanced my life has been, and to recognise which things really do Give Me Pleasure.  Now I can make the most of the opportunities that cross my path and Notice the Pleasure they bring.

The Human Graffiti Wall

The Human Graffiti Wall - back Daniel spent several hours out at our local shopping mall, yesterday, indulging in a Challenge extended to him by his mates.  He offered his body to the passersby, as a graffiti wall.  Folks needed to make a gold coin donation for the privilege.

We didn’t know about this event until he came home.  My first response was ‘did you remove your pants, too’ (which he didn’t!) and then ‘did you make any money?’.  Yes, he did.

Daniel has a fabulous attitude to life – he is working through the challenges of a book he’s been reading (essentially about how to pick up girls but really more about how to play the game of life) and embraced them fully.  It’s a very confronting way to live life, for those who don’t know him, and a bit for those of us who do, too!  But, he Engages the Magic, is True to Himself, and is a fabulous role model for those around him.

Bravo, Daniel!

Engage the Magic!
